Srinagar, Oct 28 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has initiated steps for the repair and renovation of the Shikara Ghats, located along the Dalgate–Nishat stretch of the Boulevard Road in Srinagar, aiming to restore their heritage charm and enhance the tourist experience around Dal Lake. In a written reply to a question raised by Tanvir Sadiq, the Tourism Department, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said it is working in close coordination with the Public Works (R&B) Department for the revival of these Ghats, which form a vital part of Srinagar’s lakefront tourism infrastructure. The department informed that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are currently being formulated to ensure a ’meticulous and well-structured execution framework’ for the works. “These initiatives are designed to restore the historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance of Dal Lake and its iconic Ghats,” the reply reads. Officials said the renovation project will not only upgrade infrastructure but also enhance visitor experience, helping attract a larger number of domestic and international tourists to the region. “The revitalization of these heritage Ghats seeks to reaffirm Dal Lake’s position as a premier tourist destination while ensuring the preservation of its cultural legacy and natural beauty for future generations,” the Tourism Department said—(KNO)
